About Unum and their requirement


Unum is a leading employee benefits provider which has been operating globally for over 175 years. They provide quality employee benefits including expert health and wellbeing support and financial protection.

Unum required a brand film for their UK audience that would communicate their strong understanding of the workplace and position them as innovators with an ethos of empowerment, care and social responsibility.  

The Challenge


How would we tell the emotional story at the heart of Unum's offering whilst also explaining Unum’s products? We needed a visually engaging way to showcase services like Unum’s app developments and training programmes, as well as the more nuanced services such as their support for what are often very complex care needs. And it needed to feel authentically ‘Unum’.

The Solution


Developing the right narrative was central to the film’s success. So we interviewed Unum’s employees, letting them tell their story in their own words and crafting their voices to create Unum's story. And to deliver engaging visual impact alongside complex detail we designed and created an abstract environment, traversed by fluid camera movements, all positioned around a circular stage that metaphorically represents Unum as a central presence in the changing workplace. This gave an emotive yet more impactful representation of Unum in the workplace than filming in real (staged) environments.

Impact and Benefits


The film was a major internal success, becoming a centre piece for the articulation of their services, brand and vision. An organic launch of the film saw it receive over 5,000 views within its first week. The film is now the centrepiece of an ongoing ‘always-on’ marketing campaign aimed at elevating the Unum brand within the UK as well as being used extensively in pitches.
