The Requirement
After a successful (and award winning) event in 2024, KPMG (in partnership with Microsoft) came to us in advance of their 2025 Citizen Experience Report launch. The brief was to go even further. The team wanted to immerse senior public sector leaders in the lived experiences of citizens, go beyond the data analysed in their report and open up honest conversation about change.
The result was Pause for Thought, an invite-only experience at Aures London, set in the Banksy Tunnel. The chosen venue housed floor to ceiling screens, making it crucial to incorporate them into the overall experience. Inside the 270-degree projection space, some of the UK’s most influential public service leaders came together to see the citizen experience from a different angle.
The Solution
We took the findings of the report and created a scripted drama, consisting of three acts and three characters - including Jasmin, a fictional citizen. The drama highlighted the perceptions of public services, the future of what these services could be and the impact they have on everyday people. At the same time we devised a series of intricate screen sequences which could be cued seamlessly to create the illusion that the characters were interacting with the venue itself. The structure of the performance also allowed for sections of industry insights delivered by KPMG, Microsoft and Industry guest speakers, directly grounding the empathy-driven story to real strategic data.
Impact and Benefits
The event filled the space with senior leaders and sparked important conversations inside the event and online. Guests called it "moving", "thought provoking" and "a fresh way to connect with the citizen experience".
By turning research into a shared emotional experience, Rocking Horse Pictures helped KPMG reframe how leaders think about empathy, technology and change.
