Rocking Horse Pictures' Journey to Net Zero: Our 2040 Transition Plan

This document outlines our commitment to a sustainable future, detailing our plan to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040. Our journey is built on our core values and is aligned with the latest climate science. It is a living document that guides our business strategy and demonstrates our commitment to our people, our clients, and the planet.

1. The Story So Far: Our Commitment to a Net Zero Future

At Rocking Horse Pictures, we believe that creating great content and acting responsibly go hand-in-hand. That’s why we’ve set a bold target to become a Net Zero company by 2040. This plan details the concrete steps we are taking to get there.

We’ve been reporting our carbon emissions to CDP annually since 2017, and since 2023, we have worked with sustainability experts at Positive Planet to measure our impact, and their independent verification shows we have already achieved a 41% reduction in our carbon footprint between 2023 and 2024. This is a testament to our team's commitment and a strong sign of what's to come.

2. Our Baseline and Targets

Our plan is built on a solid foundation of data. Our 2023 baseline footprint was 98.5 tCO₂e. Based on this, we've set clear, science-aligned targets to guide our progress:

  • By 2030: We will achieve at least a 95% reduction in our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and at least a 35% reduction in our Scope 3 emissions.

  • By 2040: We will achieve at least a 90% reduction in our total emissions (across Scopes 1, 2, and 3) and neutralize any remaining residual emissions.

3. Who's Driving the Change? Our Governance and Accountability

Our commitment to this plan starts at the top. The responsibility for our Net Zero journey lies with our Co-Founders and leadership team. Our dedicated Environmental Committee, which includes members from across the business, meets regularly to drive the plan forward and review our progress.

All our emissions data is analysed annually by Positive Planet using the GHG Protocol and UK government conversion factors. This provides external, third-party verification that our progress is credible and trustworthy. We integrate sustainability into our company culture through our official Environmental Policy and ongoing staff training.

4. Taking Action: What We're Doing Right Now

We are not waiting to act. We have already taken significant steps to reduce our footprint:

  • We have eliminated our Scope 1 emissions in 2024.

  • We are already powered by 100% renewable electricity in 2025.

  • We have implemented a sustainable procurement policy and are actively engaging with our suppliers to reduce their emissions.

  • We've adopted a flexible working model to drastically reduce commuting emissions.

  • On set, we focus on waste minimization and the reuse of props to reduce our production footprint.

5. A Roadmap to 2040

This plan is our roadmap for the coming years:

  • 2025: Our Scope 2 emissions will be fully renewable, and we will scale up our supplier engagement program.

  • 2030: We will meet our near-term targets of a ≥95% Scope 1+2 reduction and a ≥35% Scope 3 reduction.

  • 2040: We will achieve a ≥90% total reduction, with residual emissions neutralized.

6. Transparency and Continuous Improvement

We are committed to transparent reporting. We publish our progress through the SME Climate Hub and CDP, and we provide annual updates to our clients and on our website.

Our journey is about continuous improvement. We will regularly review our initiatives and work with our teams and industry peers to adopt new, low-carbon technologies and find creative ways to embed sustainability into every project we undertake.
